I was a little early to my meeting in the SF Mission District so I decided to stop into El Toro for a quick bite since they weren't busy. I had the 3 taco special. They put beans in their tacos - wasn't expecting that. Although it was a good price their was an up charge for carne asada. Guess it's a SF thing. They used two larger corn tortillas so it ended being a lot of food! The beans and carne were good, but it was a little cold. I got the chile de arbol salsa so was expecting some heat. Not very spicey. Overall still a pretty good meal - at a really good price. The staff were pretty friendly and chatted with me in español - prolly cuz there was nobody else since it was still early!

I love this place. Been coming here for years although haven't been in a while since my visit yesterday. I can never say anything bad. This has been an icon in the city . Back in the 80's they used to have a line out the door and around the corner everyday for years. One of the best burrito shops in the city.

403 Reviews, how have I never written about El Toro? It's 1984. I'm a wide eye 22 year old. Just moved to the neighborhood. My new housemate said, "Hey lets go get a burrito". We walked down the block to El Toro. Since that day, I've eaten literally (and I don't use that word lightly) 1000's of burritos at El Toro. Each one a masterpiece. Sadly, these days I can only get to El Toro a few times a year. But each visit is special. Even worst, I can't find anything close to the freshness, flavor, quality and lovely service here in New Mexico. That 1984 burrito costs about $6.00. 40 years later it only $14.00. If that's not value, I don't know what is. One more thing. Over the years, I've seen the same happy faces behind the counter. Quick service restaurants that can hold on to staff is pretty amazing.

Conveniently located at the corner of 17th & Valencia, this place is hard to miss. Ordered the birria tacos, carnitas tacos, and the garlic mushroom quesadillas. I was expecting the burria tacos to have melted cheese, but instead was given birria sauce on the side; it was still tasty. They run a $2 taco special from 2-5pm, but looking at their menu, it's just basically a $1 off the 3 tacos for $7. Love the garlic mushroom quesadillas! Each dish comes with chips and salsa. Chips were perfect, not too salty at all! Ordering reminded me like ordering at Subway, you'll be asked for options/preferences as you go down the line towards the cash register. Overall, friendly staff, clean place, lots of options with affordable prices. Only street parking that you may need to park a block or two away, which is fine especially when exploring/shopping on Valencia St.
